I think it's pretty clear how WALMART gets "their cost of business down as low as they have": Interview with Gary Gereffi, professor of sociology at Duke University". Also see: The Los Angeles Pulitzer Prize winning reporting on Walmart. And other businesses are instituting those "cost-cutting" measures, too: "Target Tests Matching Rival Walmart's Prices." (Oh my, The source is Minnesota Public Radio!). It looks as if you just might get your wish.

Go ahead and hate them if you wish – but WALMART is the best subsidy my family ever got.

We don’t buy meat there – because they don’t have butchers there, and who knows where the meat comes from, but their produce is fresh, and their prices are 30% lower on a lot of packaged goods.

Go ahead & price a box of the kids favorite cereal there, and compare it against one of the ‘other’ grocery stores.

I pay less for work pants there than I did 20 years ago.

No, I don’t hate WALMART, I just wish more companies could figure out how to get their cost of business down as low as they have.
