A Ben Franklin line from the late 18th Century, I believe. That was when most available water was dangerous to drink. We oldsters still remember Burgermeister Beer, which featured a human symbol dressed in Revolutionary War clothing. Samuel Adams Beer is a current incarnation of that idea.
