Ella Mae Whalen, 89, who had lived the last three years in Billings, died Nov. 3, 2011.
She was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Painted Post, N.Y., to William and Roxanna Pearl Conrade. In 1944, she married Martin F. Whalen III. He died two weeks before they would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
They had lived mainly in Bozeman and Las Cruces, N.M. They also had lived three years in Cairo, Egypt, and traveled extensively.
Mrs. Whalen was active in Beta Sigma Phi and was a devout Christian. She had received care from Rocky Mountain Hospice.
They had four children, Terry Whalen of Billings, Susie Schlechten of Puyallup, Wash., Peggy Hilling of Billings and Marty Whalen of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
No services are planned until interment of ashes this spring in Bozeman. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings.
