When Alanna Brand retired from her job in retail management, her husband told her she needed to find a hobby – something new to occupy her time. What he may not have bargained for was quite how seriously she would take that suggestion to heart.
In 2011, Alanna started Vintage Glitz and Treasures, a vintage jewelry and antique store, based on her love of history. Her business consists of locating and purchasing unique jewelry pieces and other items from throughout history that she sells online and at shows around the state.
Alanna carries mostly vintage jewelry pieces, but also offers a variety of antiques such as mirror sets, girdles, compacts, perfume bottles and other women’s items throughout history.
“These are classy vintage items, not junk,” says Alanna. “In many cases, I know the history of where the item came from, and I love to share those stories with my customers.”
Purchasing items all around the U.S. and the world, many of her offerings date back as far as the early 1800s up through the mid-1900s.
“Pieces range in price from $5 to $1,000, so there really is something for everyone,” Alanna says.
One piece currently in the Vintage Glitz and Treasures collection is a highly sought after 1950s Oscar Charlin, made by D&E Delizza and Elster. According to Alanna, “these two men made fabulous jewelry for not only themselves but also for some large names such as Weiss, Charlin, Alice Caviness, Ballet, Celebrity, Hobe, Hattie Carnegie, Kenneth J. Lane, Kramer, Karu, and many others. These are some of the biggest designer names. It is no wonder that the pieces they made for their own name have become so valued.”
You can meet Alanna and view her unique collection of vintage jewelry at the Home and Health Expo, at booth 606 inside the Montana Pavilion. To view the Vintage Glitz and Treasures collection online, visit www.vintageglitzandtreasures.com.
