Gene Wehrman

Services will be July 18, 2014, for Eugene “Gene” Wehrman, 76, who had been senior aviator for Big Sky Airlines.

He was born to Helen Frances (Lamire) Wehrman and Paul Gerhardt Wehrman on Aug. 19, 1937, in Dickinson, N.D. He grew up in Sentinel Butte, N.D.

Mr. Wehrman served in the Army in Germany. On June 30, 1962, he married Mildred Alyce Hakert and they made their home in Billings on a small farm until retirement in 2012.

He had worked for Fruehauf Trailers and later completed flight training and began his aviation career, rising to chief flight instructor and later senior aviator for Big Sky Airlines until being diagnosed with diabetes, resulting in early retirement.

Mr. Wehrman then studied drafting at City College at Montana State University Billings and was a professional draftsman at MRL Equipment Co. After retiring, he spent time at the family-owned preschool, Toddle Town Children’s Academy.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Michael Wehrman of Billings, Rob Wehrman of Hudson, Wis., and Joseph Wehrman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; siblings, Teresa Burns of Portland, Ore., JoAnn Schillo of Bismarck, N.D., Gerhardt Wehrman of Creston, B.C., Canada, Raymond Wehrman of Bismarck, Virginia Bares of Bismarck and Dorothy Holt of Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

Viewing will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Cremation and Funeral Gallery. Services will be at 11 a.m. July 18, with lunch following at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 226 Wicks Lane. Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery.
